New attraction : Kuala Lumpur By Cycle programme


Masjid Jamek ... located near the Dataran Merdeka Heritage buildings





Introduction :
One can now explore the city's oldest park , the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park , and Dataran Merdeka heritage buildings on a bicycle with the introduction of the Kuala Lumpur By Cycle programme .
The eco-friendly programme allows tourist to ride on the designated cycle zone routes near Dataran Merdeka heritage buildings  and its surroundings area .
The tourism initiative by Visit KL , for the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2014 , offers 20 bicycles for rent . Tourists can go on the nature route that starts at Kuala Lumpur City Gallery . The gallery , beside Dataran Merdeka , is the start and finish point of the route and it covers two zones .

The Tour Zone :
The first zone , called the Heritage Zone , encompasses attractions such as the Sultan Abdul Samad building , the National Textile Museum , the Victorian Fountain , Royal Selangor Club , Cathedral of St Mary and the  City Theatre , better known as Panggung Bandaraya .
The second , the Park Zone , takes tourists through the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park , with stops covering Perdana Botanical gardens , KL Bird Park , KL Hibiscus and Orchid Gardens , National Planetarium , Tun Abdul Razak Memorial , Islamic Arts Museum and the National Mosque .

The Packages :
Tourists can opt for the Free and Easy Cycle package , which is a self guided bicycle tour . They will be given route maps to explore the heritage sites at their own pace .
The other is The Guided Cycle Tour package , a first -of-its-kind in the country, that will be conducted in groups of between 8 and 12 riders . In this package , participants will be given a set of headphones that allow them to hear a running commentary by the tour guide as they ride to the various attractions .
As safety is a priority , tourists will also be equipped with safety helmet and vests , as well as road maps , to indicate safe routes .

The Fees  :
For the Free and Easy package , the bicycles can be rented at RM30 for the first four hours and RM5 for every subsequent hour .
The Guided Tour is priced at RM45 per person and the rider can continue to use the bicycle after the guided tour is over .
The refundable deposit of RM250 is needed when renting the bicycles .
